Footnotes
December 1st, 2008 | Topics: Apple, General GeekI was poking around Apple’s site, and came across their Public Relations page. It’s not that exciting, really. Just info that gets spun into countless blog posts across the Internet. The oldest release I could find was from 2000*, which is surprising, since the “PR Library” only links to releases from 2003 forward. One thing I found interesting was the last paragraph on the releases from 2000. Remember, this is a year before OS X was released:
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Apple is committed to bringing the best personal computing experience to students, educators, creative professionals and consumers around the world through its innovative hardware, software and Internet offerings.
Here is what that paragraph says on the last published press release from the company:
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.
In 2000, Apple’s own PR department seemed to realize that with a confusing product line, an outdated OS and a shrinking market share, “students, educators, creative professionals and consumers” were their best shot at staying in the game. Eight years later, they are a bit more confident, it seems.

* Of note, the “Apple Unveils OS X” one is pretty neat.
